«La Poste» theatre in Viège

The «La Poste» theatre is like a massive arc moored in the centre of the Rhône valley. Commonly known as «La Poste», the Theatre owes its name to its distinctive history.

Indeed the hill on which it now stands was previously the site of a goods warehouse. This is where horses and other animals were harnessed to transport goods and cross the high passes of the Valais.

Since then, the former coaching inn and the warehouse have been transformed into a hotel, theatre and cinema. A new building dedicated to the theatre was opened in 1991, in honour of the Viégoise tradition of staging open-air operas.

Today, the Theatre stages a wide range of shows: plays, concerts, musicals, dance, entertainment... In total, around thirty productions for all ages are offered each season.
