Life can be so simple. Our navigation devices guide us directly to our destination. And Netflix suggests new films and series for us that exactly match our tastes. This is all made possible by algorithms – applications that automatically analyse data and prepare or make decisions. However, this process is usually difficult for users to understand.

Understanding algorithms better

This is where the pioneer project AlgorithmWatch Switzerland comes into play: With the support of the Migros Pioneer fund, this non-profit organisation is creating a comprehensive understanding of the algorithmic decision processes. Based on the model of its German counterpart, AlgorithmWatch Switzerland analyses algorithms and explains them to a wide public. The aim is to create more transparency and appropriate regulation.
